my first few paragraphs of insanity

Well, since it's rather new and still in the theaters, I thought I would talk about "The Hills Have Eyes". Has anyone seen this yet? Well, let me tell you. I'd seen the trailers, the website, the original, and even the myspace profile. So I guess it's fair to say that I was rather exicted to see it. My expectations were pretty high to say the least. I have a sick obsession with "horror" films or just plain fucked up ones. It was rated R and looked amazing to me, I liked the storyline and it just looked plain out creepy. So of course I went and saw it on opening night.

Before I get into what I really thought about it, let me just say that I am rather annoyed now days when I go to the movies. The theater was packed, almost all of the seats taken in a pretty huge theater. Cells phones are going off and people are actually answering them during the film. Every time something slightly startling happens, you hear a huge wave of girls' gasps and sighs. You get your other group of teenagers that sit there and talk. What happened to the real horror movie fanatics that appreciate the movie for the movie's sake. But all of that is besides the point, on to the real topic, the movie.

So, as I said earlier, I had high expectations. So to say the least, I was let down. The movie itself had a good plot going. A nice family with different generations all going on a lovely anniversary trip through the mountains when they happen to run into the middle of nowhere. So this dude basically tricks the family into going through the desert where the "deformed social rejects" live and trap people that cross their path. At this point is where the movie just starts to go downhill. Now, I am one to appreciate blood and guts, really I do. But this movie just crosses that line a little much. There are parts that are totally not necessary to the plot at all.

To make a long story short, the brother in law turns into a total badass and goes on a murdering rampage with the help of the Beast and Rubie, a nice but deformed girl. I don't want to sit here and give away every part of the movie for those of you that have not seen it and are planning on it. I guess the main point of my opinion is that if you are going out there looking for a quality horror film that gives lots of genuine scare, this movie definitely is not for you. But if you are looking for a few cheap jumps, a load of ridiculous gore that has no place, and oscar award winning make up jobs, then I'd say go for it.

I think I need to start setting lower expectations. I hope I didn't offend anyone because I know that most of the things that come out of my mouth are pretty much summed up as insane. So yes, that's all I've got for tonight ;)
